About this project

Foodstuffs is New Zealand's biggest grocery distributor, and one of the country's largest organisations. Their portfolio includes Pak n Save, New World, Gilmours and Four Square brands. Foodstuffs North Island Limited (FSNI) covers the entire North Island, and is responsible for all store roll outs and refurbishments. Facing a strong competition on their own land from Countdown (the big Australian brother) and in order to achieve their financial goals, FSNI required a comprehensive suite of Cost and Commercial Management Services across their portfolio of projects.

Our role

We were appointed during the ‘Pre and Post Contract’ phase to provide ‘Cost Management’ for all of the refurbishment, extension and new FNSI’s branches across New Zealand – North Island wide. We were responsible for delivering cost-care expertise for the entire FSNI’s redevelopment programme (stores and fresh/ambient distribution centres) – varying size: 3,000 – 18,000 sqm). We also helped the Client with the implementation of the new Design Guidance 2.0 and the development and integration of their new Organisational Project Management (OPM) within & across the business. The services we procured included, but were not limited to, the following:

Cost Management

Feasibility studies, benchmarking, financial advice and budget preparation
Preparation of estimates, cost planning and cash flow forecasting
Preparation of tender document (contracts, written specifications and bill of quantities)
Evaluation, clarification, negotiation, realignment of tenders and finalising contracts
Change control and change management
Cost monitoring and reporting
