Birthplace of the iconic singer Edith Piaf, Tenon hospital underwent some major works in recent years – which resulted in shifting the hospital centre of gravity and grouping up several departments all in one place. The main goal was to avoid the constitution of a heavy monolithic set completely out of scale with the city. Absolute priority was hence given to volume fragmentation – an approach that is immediately recognizable in the deliberately graphic façade. Considering the situation and the size of the lobby on Avenue Gambetta, architect Pascal Beau saw fit to turn it into the main entrance of the hospital.
